Whether it is art, or music, or frontline action and coordination, there is a tremendous amount of power in the women taking climate action across the globe.
Our Director Rachel Marco-Havens has created a playlist filled with awesomeness! She will be working to reveal more of the actual work these incredible women are doing, but for now, the playlist is an introduction… We will be building this playlist as more people find the time to put into this little exaltation of greatness.
We asked our strong and powerful women in this work to meet for tea, for an interview and a moment to share their work… Well… This is not easy when there is a pipeline headed under your river, and under the river your friends and family are protecting out in North Dakota. Or the looming TPP, or this election, people are either running for the trees, or like these women running from the trees to the shores to call for a just transition to renewable energy.
This is just a mere slice of the powerful and beautiful women here in the New York area, there are so many more, and this list will grow as we find the time to add to this list…
Right now, this is primarily a few badass New York Women. But that will change too 😉
“The only reason I am able to do what I do is with the mentorship and partnership with woman like these Water Protector Goddesses. I wouldn’t be here if I had not followed Mary MacNamara around the print shop eavesdropping on her conversation when the bottling company was coming for our water. We became teammates on a team generous enough to give me room to be part of a successful action. That team gave me the trust in myself to launch the call to take economic development grants back from the corporation taking our water. If I had not stepped up to protect the water in our tiny town, I would not have taken the liberty to look outside of my own back yard, and discover a world of need—Need for the women to step back up and take leadership in protecting our futures…” —Rachel Marco-Havens
This playlist began as a project inspired by Oriole Osprey Lake and her vision…

‘Women Act for Climate Justice: Ten Days of Global Mobilization’ is a worldwide call for women and girls to bring light to their climate struggles and solutions by sending in photos and statements; or through escalated actions including but not limited to educational events, community projects, protests and marches.
The 2016 ‘Women Act for Climate Justice’ campaign is being called in advance of the November 2016 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – COP22 Conference in Marrakech, Morocco, where we must work together to ensure a sustained civil society presence and pressure to demand that all government’s road maps ahead originate in a climate justice framework, and with respect to human, Indigenous and women’s rights, and gender, social, economic and ecological justice. The ‘Women Act for Climate Justice’ decentralized mobilization is intended to show our collective actions and voices in the lead up to COP22, but also far beyond the UNFCCC.
Join the Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network, Women’s Global Call for Climate Justice and hundreds of global allies as we stand together in resistance, strength and hope.
Thanks for putting this together Rach!
